A wonderful opportunity to cut through the spin and present the facts, through the world's largest lamb showcase.

We enjoyed the collaborative, open atmosphere with open minded, passionate breeders who spoke openly, honestly and well about their programs and how they are a part of the mosaic, that is the modern lamb industry. Thank you to AMPC for bringing producers, processors and researchers together for the AMPC carcase showcase. We found tremendous value in benchmarking our commercial operation against the best across all breeds in the lamb industry.

We entered 100 6-month-old grassfed lambs fattened on a decaying grass feed base in the Spring of 2025. We set the auto drafter to draft off the first 100 lambs that were 48-52kgs from a mob of 950 lambs. They were sent to be processed at Gundagai Meat Processors (GMP) which we were then able to tour earlier this year.

We hit the target weight of 26kgs dressed for an average yield of 52%. This is on par with the results we have previously seen with other processors in all our previous kill results.

Off the back of this we also expected to be at the competitive end for Lean Meat Yield percentage and were rewarded with100% of our lambs above the trial average of 57.48% (Tullinga average of 64.4%).

Our IMF results were also very good with 65 out of 103 lambs above the trial IMF average, to average 4.1% which is also above the GMP average of 3.96%.

These results are a great base as it shows, you can have both high lean meat yield and IMF. IMF will be able to be increased further, if price signals arise, from either a normal finish on a better pasture base or by adding supplement and growing the lambs right out to 28-32kgs dressed at 8/9 months of age.

Exciting times for Dorpers and the lamb industry. Please see the below graphs to show our results on a graph, visually representing where we sat in comparison to both the trial and the GMP averages.
